A Helping Hand

If you or someone you know is having to make tough choices between feeding their pets or other difficult options; please reach out to Friends of the Marshfield Animal Shelter. We are here to help you or connect you with various community resources that provide the temporary safety net we all sometimes need when we no longer can make ends meet.

Surrendering An Animal

All requests to surrender an animal to the Marshfield Animal Shelter must be authorized and pre-approved by Marshfield Animal Control (781-834-6655 ext. 1500.)

Friends of the Marshfield, MA Animal Shelter, Inc. does not operate the shelter and is not authorized to accept animals on behalf of the town owned and operated Marshfield Animal Shelter. Never abandon your animal. Pets are not equipped to survive on their own.

Here are some tips to try to re-home your pet before contacting the shelter:

  • Re-home your pet. Plan ahead and allow sufficient time. It can take weeks to months to find it the best home for your pet.

  • Have your pet spayed or neutered and groomed. Make sure your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations. This will increase your pet’s adoptability.

  • Get the word out. Ask your friends, family and co-workers to help and network. Use social media to share this information.

  • Use the Adopt-A-Pet tool sponsored by the Petco Foundation. Set up a pet profile, and interested people apply. Adopt-A-Pet staff reviews posts making it a safer alternative to other online alternatives, such as Craigslist.

  • Be cautious when considering a new family as your pet’s new owners. Meet in a public place and ask lots of screening questions. Review our adoption application for ideas.

  • Contact rescue organizations.

Please contact Marshfield Animal Control at 781-834-6655 ext. 1500 to arrange to surrender your pet if you are unable to re-home your pet.

Local Business Support

Friends of the Marshfield Animal Shelter are fortunate to have proven and trusted local resources to help with training our volunteers, and providing extended board and train commitments to dogs needing a second chance.

We would like to take a moment to recognize both Tracy Britt and Donna Dunlop.

Each of these women own and operate businesses located in Marshfield MA. Please consider reaching out for continued education, boarding, training, day camp and products; as these businesses have repeatedly been good Friends to the Marshfield Animal Shelter.
